Light house from this morning
Not much about today. Started off cool and marine overcast but once I turned inland and went over the first set of hills, blue sky and warmed up 10° from 22 to 32 and then over the course of the next few hours went up to 37 that’s Centigrade of course . As I predicted to myself, the road got a lot less busy only two trucks passed me all day and a lot of cars of course but they were doing 70 and I was doing 55 but I was enjoying the ride even though after two days of basically desert, not a whole lot to see and unfortunately, I have to stay on the freeway because there’s no other road that’s paved.
Did see a semi truck that went off the road, fell over on its side and spilled all it’s goods all over and a dozen scavengers were picking over the load as I went by
A lot of road, going off into the desert and up into the hills where they’re mining, and I think this town owes its existence to mining. I even saw a Japanese mine, (guess owned by some Japanese company)
About 70% of the music that I listen to in bars and restaurants is up-to-date American hip-hop and rock ‘n’ roll so that’s nice however I really like Chilean vintage music too so I’m being well served here.
I stopped at a little town with a restaurant off to the side of the road that looked fairly modern and turned out the table Next to me, was a Washington state fire fighter, and his wife and kid who had come down to visit his father, who had retired here after making a bundle in Washington, I guess because they left in his Mercedes, a new one. The ff was embarrassed to say he was the only one in this family you couldn’t speak Spanish so the relatives were just talking to dad even though he had come all this way
The reception guy at this hotel where I am at tonight in Copiapo told me make sure you get everything done by 8:30 I said why and he said everything except supermarkets closes at 8:30 every restaurant every bar and I said what? why is that he said during Covid they started closing early and really got used to it so they just made it a new town rule I said what again and he said yeah we’re just lazy.
I’m getting good at fooling the dogs because every time at a place where there’s several of them as soon as I start it up they start barking and then if i start to move even a little bit they come running at me so I Revit up a little bit and then let it die down and then when they seem to have lost interest, I gun it and take off burning rubber. Well not really but you know what I mean.
